Chevy Silverado Recalls – 2025 Update

Chevrolet Lemon Law

The chances of owning—or eventually owning—a recalled vehicle are high. After all, millions of cars are recalled every year due to manufacturing errors affecting their drivability and safety. The good news is that recalled vehicles can be repaired if you stay alert and informed

Let’s look at a make and model that’s been the subject of multiple recalls over the last few years: the Chevrolet Silverado. If you own a vehicle on the Silverado recall list, this guide will help you determine whether your specific vehicle has been affected and instruct you on how to address the recalled issue safely.

If you’ve already attempted to repair your vehicle without success, we will explain how to file a claim outside the scope of the recall and seek compensation for your defective purchase.

Let’s get started.

Common Issues with Chevy Silverados

Most recalled Silverado models built between 2020 and 2024 experienced issues affecting their ability to shift and brake. Drivers reported problems with the power brake system, leading to reduced performance. The resulting slower stop times increase the likelihood of a car crash, especially in high-speed scenarios where rapid braking is critical.

Recent Chevy Silverado Recalls

2024 Chevy Silverados

  • Model:  Silverado HD 2500, 3500
  • Issue: This recall addresses a potentially dangerous situation where moisture can get into the electronic tailgate release switch, causing it to short-circuit and open unexpectedly while driving. This creates potentially dangerous conditions for vehicles following behind.
  • Solution: Your local dealer will inspect and replace the tailgate switch touchpad assembly.
  • Recall Date: January 13, 2025

2023 Chevy Silverados

  • Model: Silverado 1500
  • Issue: This software-related recall addresses a critical safety concern with the braking system in which warning displays fail to indicate brake fluid loss. Without this warning, drivers experience reduced braking performance and an increased risk of accidents when stopping.
  • Solution: Your local dealer will perform a software update on the affected electronic brake module.
  • Recall Date: October 28, 2024

2021 Chevy Silverados

  • Model: Silverado 1500
  • Issue: The 2021 Silverado 1500 faced two separate safety recalls related to critical passive safety systems:
    1. The front driver’s side airbag in certain models is missing metal tabs that prevent it from deploying correctly.
    2.  Seat belts in certain models were installed with incorrect hardware, compromising their ability to properly restrain passengers in a crash.
  • Solution: Authorized dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the air bag module and compromised seatbelt bolts.
  • Recall Date: July 1, 2021 (airbag recall) and February 6, 2021 (seat belt bolts)

2020-2022 Chevy Silverados

  • Model: Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500
  • Issue: This widespread recall addresses a serious drivability issue in which transmission control valve failure can cause the rear wheels to lock unexpectedly while driving. If this happens, drivers can lose control of their vehicle, increasing the risk of collisions.
  • Solution: Authorized dealers will install transmission control software to detect valve wear before it reaches a critical point, preventing the dangerous lock-up condition.
  • Recall Date: December 9, 2024
